Beloved Band Member’s Sudden Passing Remembered with Heartfelt Tributes on 4th Anniversary

On May 13, 2021, J.Yoon was found deceased at his home.
His agency, 325 ENC, stated, “J.Yoon left us today. In the wake of this sudden tragedy, M.C. The Max members and all 325 ENC staff are mourning the loss with great sorrow.” J.Yoon’s funeral proceedings began on May 16, aligned with the arrival of his family, and were held privately per their wishes. A separate memorial space was later arranged for fans to pay their respects.
The funeral was attended by family, M.C. The Max members Lee Soo and Jeon Min-hyuk, and close colleagues who bid farewell to J.Yoon on his final journey.

Debuting in 2000 with the band Moonchild, J.Yoon gained widespread love with songs like “Gwi-cheon,” “Because I Love You,” and “The Sun Is Full.” From 2002, he formed M.C. The Max with Lee Soo and Jeon Min-hyuk, achieving chart-topping success with hits like “Just for a Moment” and “Poem of Love.” Beyond M.C. The Max, J.Yoon also worked as a composer and producer for Woollim Entertainment.
His passing was especially heartbreaking as it came just two months after the release of M.C. The Max’s 20th-anniversary album, “Ceremonia.”
The news of J.Yoon’s death shocked many colleagues, who expressed their grief and paid tribute. Singer Jadu shared, “Your house in Sangsudong, Mangwondong, Seogyodong, where I came and went countless times as a friend… Even now, it feels like if I dropped by, you’d be there in checkered pants, sitting with your dad-legs, lazily nagging me. It’s hard to believe I can’t stop by those neighborhoods, can’t call you to meet up briefly. That day, I just didn’t want to accept it.” She added, “Rimi and Chimi [Yoon’s cats] are being well cared for at your agency, so don’t worry.”

Heo Jung-min, a former Moonchild bandmate, wrote, “Kind and gentle Jae-woong. I don’t know how you lived all these years, but I hope you achieve everything you want and find happiness there. I’m so sorry for being timid and petty.”
M.C. The Max member Lee Soo expressed, “I thought I knew you, but realizing I knew nothing makes me sad. This is how I send you off, Yoon. Don’t worry—those left behind will find a way to go on.”
J.Yoon’s untimely passing left an indelible void in the hearts of fans, friends, and fellow artists. His musical legacy, built over two decades with heartfelt songs and soulful melodies, continues to resonate with listeners. Though gone too soon, J.Yoon’s passion for music and the memories he created live on, offering comfort to those who loved him. His story serves as a poignant reminder to cherish every moment and the people around us. May his music and gentle spirit be remembered always.
